Library Construction Continues with Lane Closures Today and Tomorrow

Update on the library construction and road paving.

Beginning at 9 a.m. today there were lane closures on Route 109/High Street due to the library construction and paving project.

According to DPW Director Vicki Quiram, there was a detour throughout most of the day, which was set up at Gay Street. She said that since this was not during peak hours, the department did not receive any complaints.

"No complaints to us is a good sign," said Quiram.

Westwood Police also reported that the day went smoothly and the department received no complaints.

The lane closures were scheduled to last from 9 a.m. until at 3 p.m., but wrapped up early. By 2 p.m. the lane was opened back up to drivers. Today's work consisted of erection of steel at the new library site as well as finding the water main that came from the old Colburn School.

Construction workers said that beginning at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning, there will be more lane closures when the area in front of the new library is getting paved. They noted that this would probably be the last day of this for at least a month. Westwood Police reported that the lane would only be closed between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.

Check back tomorrow with another update and photos.
