Featured One Week, Adopted the Next: Russo Scores a New Roof Over his Head

After months of recovery, an 8-year-old cat has a new home days after his feature on Westwood Patch.

Days after his feature on Westwood Patch, a cat at the Animal Rescue League has a new home after a months of recovery from an injury.

, arrived at the Dedham Branch of the  on April 2 with an extremely large wound extending from the back right side of his head down towards the front of his neck.

Due to the seriousness of the wound, he was immediately brought to Tufts Veterinary Emergency Treatment and Specialties in Walpole by shelter staff, where he received the necessary medical care he so desperately needed. Russo was then placed in a loving foster home for the duration of his recovery, which lasted roughly about 10 weeks.

Due to the superb care received at Tufts he recovered wonderfully and the foster home found that he had a very fun, outgoing, and affectionate fellow in their midst. "Russo would jump up on your lap and just lay his head on your shoulders purring," says Russo’s foster mom Tina Whalen, "or sometimes he gives Eskimo kisses and rubs his cheeks on our faces."

Russo returned to the adoption center on June 16, and luckily for him June is  He was housed in a feature cage space where he could greet visitors and display his antics. In a short time, Russo caught the hearts of a local Dedham family, where he helped them become a multi-pet household by making three kitties a magic number.

Russo's care was aided by the Moni Barron Fund, which consists of generous donations designated to assist animals with significant, but operable medical conditions requiring specialized medical care that is not routinely covered by shelter veterinary care.
