Elementary School Kids Face Off in Westwood Math Meet

A math contest brought Westwood's Elementary students to pit their skill in calculation against one another.

The 5th annual Math Meet brough more than 160 Westwood Elementary School students togehter on Wednesday to pit their math skills against one another. 

"You get bored talking about it, this way you get to practice with your friends," Zach Conway, a 3rd grade student said at the event. 

The using group collaboration problem-solving and speed rounds, students enthusiastically solved equations in a subject students are sometimes less than passionate about, event coordinators said.

"We tell folks, this isn't just for the smart kids, this is for everybody. This is enrichment," John Cummings, a volunteer at the event, said.
