Cranberry Bog Lies Around the Corner from Westwood

The bog, located in Foxborough, includes nature trails for viewing, walking and educational strolls.

Looking for an outdoor excursion near Westwood that doesn't entail driving hours to Acadia National Park in Maine or the Cape Cod National Seashore in Wellfleet?

Behind at Patriot Place sits a working cranberry bog. This bog, which is sponsored by Ocean Spray, includes nature trails for viewing, walking and educational strolls.

The 32-acre cranberry wetland system and wooded area is open to the public from dawn to dusk and is the only active cranberry bog in Foxborough. It includes a half-mile nature trail, varying from three to six feet wide that consists of wood mulch. The trail is easy to maneuver and extensive.

Along the trail, nature-lovers can steal a peak of a variety of wildlife, including, swans, Great Blue Heron, mallards, Canadian geese, deer, wood ducks, turtles and raccoons. There is also an array of indigenous plant life including White Water Lily, Wild Celery, Pond Weeds and Eastern Hemlock.

There is educational information provided along the trail, including the life cycle of a cranberry. There is also a boardwalk leading up to the trail.
