Comments of the Week: April 4-9

Turkey encounters, passover recipes, and cell phone towers are among the comment topics from the past week.

As Westwood Patch continues to bring you up-to-the-minute news and stories about what's going on in town, we also want to focus on thanking our readers for their continued effort in providing feedback in the form of comments on our articles.

Here is a roundup of some feedback our articles received this week.

After a along Washington Street in Islington this week, Westwood Animal Control Officer Paul Jolicoeur said it's not a common area for the birds, which he said are, for the most part, harmless when approached. One Westwood Patch reader, however, did not have such a great experience:

"Harmless? I wouldn't say turkeys are harmless. One sent me to the hospital once. I was driving down the main road in Dover at rush hour, and a male turkey was standing in the road, refusing to budge for the traffic. When I got to him, I got out of the car and tried to chase him onto the roadside. Darned thing flapped his wings so he was eyeball to eyeball with me and kicked me with his talon! I thought my hand was broken, and it was bleeding, so I went to the ER. Turned out to just be badly bruised, but I won't mess with a turkey like that again!"

A regarding the resulted in several emailed suggestions, and one comment from one reader:

"Chocolate matzoh is a staple in our house! I have a great easy recipe and it freezes really well so it stays for weeks on end (although it usually doesn't last that long in our house!)"

While discussed in the comment thread regarding have dwindled a bit on the site, one reader recently added a comment:

"I don't have access to any 'authoritative studies' but I keep seeing articles like this pop up that make me worried about radiation emissions from cell phones. I've taken the small steps suggested in the article, but I think the main reason for a lot of push back (aside from obviously the aesthetics and potential impact to home values) is the lack of clarity and agreement from all these studies/research. We're in 2011 and this Telecommunications Act of 1996 seems so long ago . . . but that's the regulation (can you imagine the impact to the cell phone/carrier industry if this Telecommunications Act were ever voided . . .the lobbyists would have a banner year!), so Westwood cannot deny based on a health risk posed by a cell phone tower. But I do hope the town listens (and acts on) first and foremost to the thoughts and concerns of its residents."
