A Damaging Fire, Polling Hour Cutbacks, and A Night of Arts

A look back at the week in news.

Things didn’t bode well for the occupants of a Washington Street home that sustained heavy damage from an on Thursday. The residents were able to get to the house, but a couple of cats have yet to be found, and much of the home’s interior was destroyed.

On a higher note, a group of Westwood residents were with the granting of the Second Annual Roy London Award on Wednesday night. The award recognizes residents for their selfless service to the community and to others.

In comparing their own numbers to that of the most recent data from the U.S. Census Bureau regarding Westwood’s population, the town may in fact , as town officials say there is a discrepancy in the numbers.

Meanwhile, the town has also decided to for the 2011 Election on April 26, due to no contested races. Polls will now be open from 2 to 8 p.m. on Election Day.

And in spite of Friday’s small snowfall accumulations, the Westwood Department of Public Works has already begun left over from this winter’s harshest storms.

And in sports, Xaverian’s varsity lacrosse team against Lincoln-Sudbury on Thursday. Meanwhile, Westwood High School’s varsity softball team began , with a strong focus on defense.
