A Birthday Celebration, a Swearing In Ceremony and WestCAT Expands

A look back at the week in news in Westwood.

Happy Fourth of July Eve! It was certainly a busy week in Westwood leading up to the holiday weekend. Here are some highlights from the past week:

Thursday marked the one-year of Westwood Patch's first launch. The site has been up for a year and is going strong . . . thanks to all our devout readers!

As its summer programs are now underway, the Westwood Recreation Department is working to transition over to in the same location on Nahatan Street.

In school news, a Westwood High School has been named as the new , while a former educator in Needham has taken the role of for the 2011-2012 School Year.

In sports, Aged Wood, Westwood's new men's lacrosse team, on Tuesday, as it moves to the record of 1-1. The team plays the 'Gansett Grays on Tuesday this week.

Westwood Community Access Television (WestCAT) announced this week that they are expecting to begin airing on three channels on the  shortly after the holiday weekend. The station has been broadcasting on the Verizon network since the beginning of June.

A group of  were sworn in on Monday for their terms beginning July 1. For a video of the group reciting the annual oath, click here.

Last, but not least, the Westwood Public Library is now in full summer mode, with through August. The new schedule kicked in on Friday.
