5 Things You Need to Know Today: Jan. 11

Today's Forecast: Expect mostly sunny skies in Westwood today, with a high near 39, according to the National Weather Service. 

1. Early Release Day for Westwood Students: Due to Professional Development, Westwood Public Schools will have an early release day today. Elementary Schools will release at 11:50 a.m., except for which will let out at 11:25. will dismiss at 1:10 p.m. and at 12:40 p.m.

2. Today's Sports Schedule: The boys and girls varsity indoor track teams will take on Medfield today at 3:30 p.m. on the road, click here. 

3. Committee Meetings Tonight: The Westwood Permanent Building Committee and the Westwood Conservation Commission will meet tonight in their own respective meetings.

4. Christmas Tree Collection Reminder: The town will be collecting Christmas Trees this week as part of the regular trash pickup schedule. Trees must be placed at the curbside before 7 a.m., and must be free of plastic bags, stands and other materials. Residents should also make sure that trees are not covered by snow or frozen to the ground.

5. Sharps Collection: The Westwood Board of Health's Sharps Collection kiosk, located at the Westwood Senior Center, is currently out of service and under repair. Sharps can instead be brought to the kiosk located at the Islington Fire Station on Washington Street or to the BOH office at 50 Carby St.
