5 Things You Need to Know Today: Dec. 29

Today's Forecast: Sunny, yet cold skies will hover over Westwood today, with highs reaching only 33, according to the National Weather Service. 

1. Three-on-three basketball: The Westwood boys and girls high school basketball programs are sponsoring a fundraiser on Dec. 29 at .

2. Today's Sports Schedule: The Westwood High School girls junior varsity ice hockey team will take on Ursuline Academy in a scrimmage today at 9 a.m. at Noble & Greenough High School in Dedham; the boys varsity ice hockey team will take on Canton High School.

3. Holiday Week Trash Pickup: Due to the fact that Christmas fell on a Sunday this year, recycling and trash collection in Westwood will follow a regular schedule this week. There will be no delay because of the holiday. Christmas tree collection will begin the week of Jan. 9 and will take place on regularly-scheduled trash collection days. Trees must be placed at the curbside before 7 a.m., and must be free of plastic bags, stands and other materials. Residents should also make sure that trees are not covered by snow or frozen to the ground.
