New Westwood Public Library Open Today!

The Westwood Public library begins it’s latest chapter today.  The new 32,000 square foot building opens its doors to the public at 10:00 am.

“We’re raising the curtain, so to speak, just in time for summer,” said Library Director Tom Viti.

The $13.7 million dollar library boasts two floors, an actual elevator along with over 30 computers and 80,000 books.  It offers patrons an entire children’s wing, a reading room just for teens, a gallery and plenty of space to spread out and relax with a good book.

With almost twice as much space as the old building, Viti says the library is destined to be the new heart and soul of Westwood.  “We have built a true town center,” he said.  “It’s going to be transformative.”

Selectman Nancy Hyde agrees, calling the new library a wonderful community resource.  “It is so exciting to experience the opening of Westwood’s new public library,” she said.   “It is a treasure that will be available to all generations for decades to come.”

The current generation can take advantage of all that the new library has to offer, including a large roster of summer programs such as:

  • Adventures With Cartooning on July 17
  • Mommy & Me Yoga on July 22
  • Yoga for ages 10 -12 (complete with smoothies after) on July 25
  • A drum circle on July 24 and Didgeridoo lessons on August 7

The library will also offer summer story times for Little Listeners on Mondays and for children aged five and up on Thursdays.

Additionally, summer reading programs for children and teens are available.

Summer library hours are as follows:
