Library and Peoples Federal to Offer Book Bags

The Friends of the Westwood Library and Peoples Federal Savings Bank have teamed up to offer library patrons a reusable book bag.

The sturdy cream-colored bags are made out of canvas and designed to help residents carry books and other materials checked out from the new library.   They feature logos from both the Friends and the bank.

“It is an ideal partnership,” said Louise Donovan, vice president of the FOL.  “Not only do we share a parking lot, we share a sense of responsibility to the library, its patrons and the town of Westwood.”

Jim Gavin, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Peoples Federal Savings Bank couldn’t agree more.  “Our foundation, through which we funded this initiative, exists to help non-profits with worthwhile causes,” he said.  “The Westwood Library is a cornerstone for the community and we wanted to be involved in providing assistance.”

The bank is set to move into the Colburn School once construction is complete and Gavin said it is all about being good neighbors.

“The new library is a true community space and offers the town of Westwood so much.  We are thrilled to not only be next to the library, but to support it as well,” he said.

That support comes at the perfect time as the library begins the application process to become a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) building.

“We have many energy efficient initiatives in place such as parking for low-emission vehicles, highly-efficient heating and cooling systems and the use of sustainable materials throughout the building,” explained Library Director Tom Viti.  “It seems only fitting that we offer our patrons a reusable book bag.”

The book bags will be available through the Friends of the Westwood Library at it’s regular book sales, in the group’s booth at Westwood Day and via the library front desk.  In exchange for a bag, patrons are asked to make a nominal donation to help support library programs.
