What's Going on with University Station?

The site should start to see construction action within the next week.

The site of the future University Station development will begin in the next week, according to Vice President of New England Development Paul Cincotta.

Cincotta said the initial movement on the project will be getting the contractor, bulldozers and other pieces of equipment the site.

The focus for the next few months, though, will be on moving Rosemont Road from its current location, further north, closer to Blue Hill Drive.

"It's a critical path," said Cincotta. "Relocating Rosemont makes way for construction of the Wegmans building and the residential building."

Much of the work, though, from now through February, will include dirt and rock moving, and general land construction. He said the grade of the site appears flat, but it has a significant grade toward the back that needs to be removed.

Building construction won't begin until "at least late this year," he said.

The Wegmans store set up, he said, would be similar to the Northborough store that his company worked on the last couple of years. There is also a Wegmans going in to the former Omni Supermarket location in Chestnut Hill, but that store will be smaller for Wegmans standards, and will have a different layout.
