Police: Mother Assaults Child with Hedge Clippers

A Westwood woman has been charged with attempted murder after attacking her child with electric hedge clippers. 

Maureen Mullin, of 126 Pond St., was arraigned earlier today in a Boston-area hospital after Mullin assaulted her child causing significant, but non-life threatening injuries, according to the Westwood Police Department.

Westwood Police responded to the call at 4:51 a.m. in regards to a domestic violence. The father of the child was able to intervene in the assault and stop further harm from being done.

First responders treated the mother and the injured child on scene. According to police, both are expected to recover from their injuries after being transported to a Boston hospital. The father involved in the assault and the couple’s other minor child were not injured during the incident.

Police charged Mullin with attempted murder, mayhem, assault & battery on a child with injury, and assault and battery with a deadly weapon, the electric hedge clippers.

The Westwood Police Department, Massachusetts State Police and Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office are still investigating the case.
