Tee Shirts Can Send a Message

Kids need to show how they feel on bullying, and supporting "No Name Calling Day" is a great start.

Westwood schools should follow the state lead by having the young people wear black tee shirts on Jan. 25 to mark the first “.”

Westwood Superintendent of Schools John Antonucci said the schools are in support of the day, and Principal Allison Borchers, in an email update to parents, said that students and staff are encouraged to wear black as a sign of their commitment to "black out bullying." The school's student council will also be creating a bullying prevention pledge to bring back to their homerooms.

Tee shirts carry a message that a speech to an auditorium cannot; it is a tangible, real symbol that every child wears and that tells the rest of the students how the student feels about bullying.

Bullies need to see, physically, that this is wrong and others are flatly against bullies.

Maybe there is not enough time to get black tee shirts. Still, all students need to show that they want bullying ended.
