WestwoodWinds Takes the Stage Wednesday Night

A group of local musicians from various backgrounds will play a variety of music outside of Westwood High School.

For residents who have not been able to attend the first three installments of the Westwood Summer Concert Series, there is still a chance to catch the final portion on Monday, July, 26.

But even if that can't be worked into your schedule, there is some luck yet.

Wednesday night, the town will host a performance of its own community concert band, known as WestwoodWinds.

The concert is organized with support from the Westwood Education Foundation and the Westwood Recreation Department, and is actually part of the Summer Concert series, which is free to the public.

The event is directed by James Giurleo, Westwood High School Wind Ensemble director and former director of Performing Arts for the Westwood Public Schools.

The group comprises a variety of amateur musicians looking to express their musical talents. Any local resident from Westwood or even surrounding towns with the ability to play a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument is welcome to participate in the concert. There is no audition requirement, though anyone looking to join should be prepared to play at a level qual to performing from easy to moderate difficulty.

During the show, WestwoodWinds will play a variety of tunes touching on patriotic, television, movie, and Broadway themes, but will also play marching songs, light classics and popular music as well.

The show will begin at 6:30 p.m. on the lawn outside the Westwood High School auditorium entrance. For more information, contact James Giurleo at jgiurleo@westwood.k12.ma.us.
