Rick Golden Brings Humor, Fun to Westwood Summer Concert Series

The children's entertainer and musician performed at the senior center Monday night.

Some of Westwood's youngest residents were entertained Monday night at the Westwood Senior Center, where Rick Golden, a musician and performer who, aided by puppets, sang a number of humorous ditties.

Golden's performance focused on topics aimed at children, including visits to the library, his favorite foods, the alphabet, and the weather. The show was the third performance of this year's Summer Concert Series.

Some children clapped and danced along, following Golden's lead, while others ran about, oblivious to the music but happy to be enjoying the cloudy but mild afternoon. Parents, older siblings and grandparents watched from their lawn chairs and picnic blankets, which spread outward from the bandstand where Golden performed, across the lawn of the senior center.

Monday's concert also became a ground for political campaigning. As Golden sang, families sat amongst red balloons advertising Massachusetts State Representative Joe Driscoll. Representatives of individuals seeking office this November moved among the seated adults, handing out fliers and attempting to engage in discussions about their candidate's platforms. Likewise, State Congressman Stephen Lynch stopped by last week's performance to say hello to attendees.

Meanwhile, two individuals holding campaign signs on posts waited in the parking lot, watching the concert from beside a large, orange van painted with the words "Morrissey for District Attorney" advertising State Senator Michael W. Morissey's November bid for the Norfolk County office.

The final performer in the Westwood Concert Series, Mike the Music Man, will take the bandstand on Monday, July 26, and play more songs for children. The series is held on the front lawn of the Westwood Senior Center, and, in the event of rain, will be held at the Islington Community Center.
