Five Things to do in Westwood This Weekend

From hiking to baseball, residents have a number of ways to keep entertained.

Putting aside any July 4-related activities, residents in Westwood can find a number of ways to keep entertained this weekend. Here are five ways to stay busy:

1. Enjoy Some BaseballWhat could be better than catching a game of baseball on a Saturday in the middle of Summer? Westwood American Legion Post 320 will be facing off tonight against Needham Post 14 at Memorial Park in Needham at 6 p.m. So far, Westwood Post 320 has been on a solid streak, so if you're ready to support some local baseball, be sure to check it out.

2. Groove to Some Music Monday welcomes the start of the Westwood Summer Concert Series, which will take place at the Westwood Senior Center from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Pull up a blanket and relax to the tunes of the Westwood Community Swing Band, a 16-piece ensemble that has performed together for more than two decades. Pizza and refreshments will be available.

3. Take a Hike – Head to one of the many hiking trails or wooded areas in town to get some quiet time with nature. If you're in the mood for a brisk weekend nature walk, you'll find it in Westwood. Take a unique hike through Hale Reservation's many trails, or take a journey through Lowell Woods, which stretches from Gay Street to High Street all the way to the end of the Sandy Valley Road extension. For more information on Westwood's best hiking spots, check out the website of the Westwood Land Trust.

4. Relax Near the Water – If you can't get to a beach this weekend, Westwood has the next best thing. The town is filled with a smattering of ponds for you to relax by. There is easy access to Buckmaster Pond on Pond Street, for one. And, if you're a member of Hale's Membership Beach, be sure to head on over to catch some sun and splash around in the water.

The group will be meeting next on Monday, July 5, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Islington Community Center. The group was formed by the Westwood Early Childhood Council and Westwood Youth & Family Services to bring new mothers and their babies together. The goal is to focus on the joys and challenges of being a new mother, and it's the perfect opportunity to meet some new friends and neighbors.
