The Westwood fourth and fifth grade band will be performing a piece of music commissioned just for them.
On Monday, students from Deerfield, Downey, and Hanlon Elementary Schools will perform, while students from Martha Jones and Sheehan Elementary will take to the stage on Tuesday.
As part of Tuesday's fifth grade performance, the piece was composed by "The Quartet of Happiness." The jazz quartet will be on hand Tuesday to both rehearse with and perform with the fifth graders. Under the direction of band teacher Michael Reavey, the students have been learning the technique of improvisation as they prepare to present the premier of their new composition. This program was funded in part by a grant from the Westwood Educational Foundation.
