Nine-Year-Old Donates Birthday Gifts to Toys for Tots

Westwood resident and Martha Jones student Lexi Moore donated 50 birthday gifts to the charity drop off at Get in Shape for Women on High Street.

For some young children, having a birthday in the same month as Christmas might seem exciting, with two chances to receive presents.

But for Lexi Moore, who turned 9 on Dec. 1, it was time to give something back.

Kingsbury, who welcomed at least 50 attendees at her birthday party this year, received more than 50 gifts, all of them she chose to donate to the drop off at Westwood's t.

"I just said if you want to buy something, just do it for Toys for Tots," Patricia Kingsbury-Moore, Lexi's mother, recalled telling friends and family before Lexi's birthday. "I'm overwhelmed with how they responded."

On Tuesday this week, Lexi, along with her friends and fellow students from and  carried the gifts into the studio and piled them along the walls for the Toys for Tots donation. Get in Shape for Women owner Marie Fredrick and Studio Manager Chris McHugh also lent a hand, as did Beth Albert and Ellen O'Keefe, friends of the Moore family.

To show their gratitude and support to Fredrick and McHugh, as well as to commend the presence of Get in Shape for Women in Westwood, Patricia Kingsbury-Moore, Beth Albert and Ellen O'Keefe submitted the following statement:

Who has time to care? Children, whose ability to live in the moment inspires us all. Get In Shape for Women in Westwood recently sponsored a toy drive for Toys for Tots and an entire third grade class of Westwood children showed they cared by donating toys to this wonderful cause. Busy moms did too by helping the children deliver the toys and more importantly, by encouraging their children to think of others because that’s what we moms do best. It’s not often moms put themselves first, but this year why not put yourself first by committing to a healthier life-style? We all know a healthier mom is a happier mom. Make time to honor your well-being by eating right and exercising regularly. Get In Shape For Women in Westwood is a great place to start a new beginning this holiday season. Everyone should care when it comes to their health.
