Westwood Eagle Scout Meets Sen. Scott Brown

Westwood High School junior Alex Rudi and his family were invited to visit the Senator in his office.

Earning the rank of Eagle Scout is something many Boy Scouts strive for, as it marks a pinnacle accomplishment.

So when  junior Alex Rudi received the Eagle Scout status, he did not foresee himself standing in the office of U.S. Senator Scott Brown. But that's exactly what happened next.

Rudi was invited to meet Brown after earning his Eagle Scout rank this spring, according to a news release on Monday. Brown had been invited to attend Rudi's Eagle Scout ceremony, but was unable to attend. As such, Brown offered Rudi and his family a chance to visit his office.

"The invitation was unexpected, but it made my earning Eagle rank seem event more important," Rudi, 17, said in a statement Monday. "It is nice to see the Senator recognize how important scouting is to children and families."

Brown actually met with seven newly-appointed Eagle Scouts from across the state. During the meeting, Brown spoke about his own experiences as a former Boy Scout and his continued support for the group.

For his part, Rudi earned his Eagle Scout rank with Boy Scout Troop 1 Islingotn. He is also a member of Venturing Crew 9003, a group comprising scouts from Westwood and Dedham.

Moreover, he completed the National Youth Leadership Training program in 2010, which is the highest level of leadership skills training a Boy Scout can receive. Moreover, he has served on the NYLT staff for two years, and will be attending a week-long advanced training course in Virginia to prepare for the 2012 NYLT.

In addition to his achievement as a Boy Scout in Westwood, Rudi has also earned three varsity letters on the Swim Team, of which he was named as a captain for the upcoming 2012 fall season.
