Holey socks! Not in the trash!

Submitted by the Westwood Environmental Action Committee

Sweater weather is upon us. As you're making room for all those cool-season clothes in your closet, take the opportunity to free yourself of items you no longer wear or use. Donate ALL your unwanted clothes, shoes, and cloth houseware items to be Reuse /Recycled.

All textile recyclers, from Goodwill to Planet Aid, want your holey socks, old sneakers, stuffed animals, wine-stained table cloths, ugly sweaters, even the purse with the broken strap. They are all too good for the trash!  You can find donation boxes at the Islington municipal parking lot, near the Santander bank at the High Street Shops, and at gas stations and many other locations in the area.

Regardless of condition, as long as the items are dry and not smelly, they have value, whether as second hand clothes, components for new items, wiping cloths for factories, or shredded fibers for insulation, carpet padding or stuffing.

Trash costs your town cash- $82/ton in Westwood- and it’s wasteful!  Keep these valuable items, as well as your clean paper, cardboard, bottles, and rigid containers, out of the trash.  Give them another chance at being useful!
