Mismatched or a Perfect Pair?

How you fold your socks reveals more than you think.

There are two kinds of people in the world: those who roll their socks when putting them away, and those who don’t.

I’m a roller.

My husband likes his to be put together as a pair and laid flat.

I refuse to conform to his standards, so I continue to roll (as I do my boys socks) and happily match his out for him.

We’re both neat people (okay, you can call me anal because I whole-heartedly admit I am), but my point being that we do things differently.

Yet; we work. Pretty well actually.

Two children, almost 11 years of marriage and a few health obstacles thrown in our way just to keep us on our toes.

I think you need a good balance to have a healthy relationship. And I think a good balance works in parenting.

For example, I’m more of the creative thinker. Writing, discussing (often discussing ad nasuem), puzzles, baking.

Husband: builder, puts all toys together, good sense of direction, one word answers (sometimes two).

It’s no wonder our kids take after each of us.

Our youngest is me to a tee (performing songs and making up his own dances . . . at the age of 43 I admit I’ve given this up, but there was a day that I practiced the Hustle in my living room) and our oldest is now helping me find my car in the mall parking lot when I haven’t a clue where I parked.

It’s a good thing we didn’t have a third because I'm not sure where he/she would fit into the picture.

So point being, we work because were different. We each have strengths and weaknesses that we bring to the parenting table.

(Yet after two days in the car going to and from Hershey Park, Pennsylvania, I think we both brought the same thing to the table and that was the decision that we wont be doing long car vacations again-ever!)

So are you and your partner sock rollers or do you differ?

Either way, I bet you make a pretty good pair!
