What Intersections Should Have a Stop Sign, But Do Not?

Tell us in the comments.

Have you ever sat at an intersection with no hope of getting out for at least a half hour? Should there be a Stop sign there to help with mitigation?

We'd like to know where these signs should be.

Do you know of a location or dangerous intersection where a stop sign is needed? Tell us in the comments section, below.

Fay and valentine is not only in a residential neighborhood, but is also a school bus stop. Cars drive by far too fast without slowing down. It will only get worse in the winter if there is snow on the corner. This is not safe for children.

grove and forest should be a 4-way, not a 2 way, people fly down (and up) grove and it's hard to see traffic coming sometimes. I hate trying to turn at central street right now too, cars coming towards the bottom of the road don't have a stop, and the 3-way stop confusses people. I also wish Congress steet had a stop sign by the schools, either walnut or the one by the park (where life flashes before my eyes on a regular basis).

Grove and Forest. There's a bus stop right there too. We complained about it a few years ago and was told that signs are not to be used to control traffic - WTH?

I hate that. If the people are stupid enough to stop and I can safely go while they are stopped I take advantage of their stupidity.

Not sure about stop signs, but why isn't there a green arrow light at the medway road/beaver street light. Should you have to take a left onto beaver street (coming from the Kohl'd direction), it is almost impossible. Perhaps they can take the completely unnecessary light at the back entrance of Lowe's (on Fortune Blvd) and put it there!

How about removing all the unneccassary and illegal stops signs around town that were placed in front of peoples houses to make them happy?

At the bottom of Silver Hill Rd and heading north on Tyler St where Silver Hill joins into Tyler. Many of close calls at this intersection, and most people do not know that Silver Hill Rd ends at this point.

Hudson st and Allen st should be a FOUR way stop. People go so fast and so many accidents.

I agree re: Hudson and Allen and have recommended it. This recommendation has been rejected by the powers that be at Town Hall; I was told there are not enough accidents to justify two more signs, as per state guidelines. Also I was told that the police consider stop signs to be unenforceable...words to that effect.

Ironically, there is a stop sign at the corner of Washington and Hunting Ave that most people try to run when cars are driving up and down Hunting Ave. Also, there is a stop sign on Trowbridge and Hunting where most cars also try run when cars coming in and out of Hunting Ave. Remember wishing for a stop sign is a pipe dream as traffic rules mandate a certain number of casualities/accidents need to happen before a stop sign is put in. Change the rules would be helpful.

And while we are on the topic of dangerous driving, how about reminding folks to obey speed limits in neighborhoods - our street goes nowhere and folks drive at 40-50 mph and there are so many small kids - but apparently getting a slow down sign in Shrewsbury is a very laborious task.................

At the end of Valentine coming onto Fay Lane. There is a bus stop and the cars come speeding off of Valentine onto Fay Lane without stopping. It is very unsafe for the children at the bus stop as well as anyone who drives down Fay Lane. It is very dangerous and my neighbors and I have complained before and requested a stop sign and nothing has been done. I am wondering if there needs to be a child hit or some fatal accident before something is done.

Well, considering there are more & more folks who drive here in Marlborough, that take a right or a left @ a Stop sign without stopping, it surely shouldn't surprise anyone how Stop signs don't exist in areas where common sense state that they should, right?

Now that I'm retired, and not so much in a hurry to go and come back from work each day, I've surely have noticed lots of moving violations each & every day, as I ride around the city. Who knew that folks felt so darn entitled, and not abide by the rules of the road? That's what an Incomplete Conscience gives folks, the mindset that the rules do not apply to them, unless they say that it does, end of subject! Who knew that would come to fruition, here in Marlborough, MA, huh? Enjoy!

At Woodland and Goulding heading east towards 27 in Sherborn there are many young children near this intersection waiting for the bus. Cars and large trucks travel at a high rate of speed around a blind corner. I am afraid of what the icy winter conditions will bring.

Westbrook and Overlea should be a 4 way stop instead of 2. As it is, most cars glide through the stop sign anyway, but the cars who don't have the stop sign, barrel through it way too fast. Eventually those two scenarios are going to meet head on. Too many cars using it as a cut through from Congress to West St.

Stop sign needed at Indian Meadow Rd and

Stop sign needed as coming out of Indian Meadow Road and Davis Street. Davis Street's speed limit is set at 35 mph at this point and this poses a problem coming out of Indian Meadow onto Davis St where the average speeds are more like 40 to 45 mph. The Police Chief and Selectman Amberson have been advised of this but resist implementation.

CROSS and PHILIP Streets! It's very strange that there is no stop sign at that intersection, and drivers coming out of Cross St. rarely slow down enough before pulling out.

Doesn't it make more sense for parents concerned about dangerous school bus stops to petition the school and their safety officials to move the bus stop, instead of advocating a Stop sign to stop traffic 24/7 for the 15 minutes a day 185(?) days a year kids are at that location waiting for their school bus?

Not so much a stop sign, but the right lane of Main St. (by CVS), Rte. 20 Westbound should be a right-turn-only lane for people turning onto Church St. It's amazing how much traffic is unnecessarily blocking Main at South St.because of those people who want to turn "right on red", but can't because the lane is not dedicated to those turning right. Will those people who are in the position of making this kind of change even see these comments?

In Milford, South Bow Street at Main Street. There is no stop sign at the end of South Bow Street, and none on Main Street. Hate having to deal wtih people coming up South Bow and trying to cut across Main Street without stopping.

Never mind stop signs, how about the issue of a much needed traffic light in Milford where Water meets Prospect st? That intersection is incredibly dangerous, and with no light to moderate traffic, it is extremely difficult to turn out of the Shaw's plaza or the Rite Aid across the street. We've all heard of bad accidents in this area, and there was even an article on Patch about it awhile back. Milford said putting a light there was one of their priorities, but instead they take months tearing up Main st and making more streets one ways. Yeah, that makes sense!

Also, seconding Silver Hill Rd at Tyler st. I live right up the street from there and people seem to think Silver Hill is like 495 (sidewalks on Purchase st headed toward South st in Hopkinton would be nice too, but I digress).

In Milford, evey side street entering Princess Pine Lane from cars to bicycles and skateboards. Those people who enter don't show any caution. It's Kamikaze time ! Stop signs are needed.

I wouldn't like to put one at North and High Sts. where Bubbling Brook sits but that is a hairy intersection for pedestrians. I live three houses away from Bubbling Brook but I usually drive to Bubbling Brook. While pedestrian traffic there is only from March to Sept. we have had a number of car accidents near the intersection. Maybe some traffic calming is needed.

Brook & Green St. Commuters use Brook as a cut-through during rush hour to avoid the mess in downtown. Drivers do not know whether to treat it as a 3-way stop or to give traffic on Green St a right-of-way. Everyone drives WAY too fast through a neighborhood road too, so I'd like to see a 3-way stop, and make Brook St. one-way during rush hour times. At the very least it would be nice to see some speed cops, they'd meet their quota in an hour.
