Westwood Resident Named Among Top U.S. Doctors

U.S. News and World Reprot ranks Stephen Parazin 31 in orthopedics

A Westwood resident and local doctor has been named as a top doctor by U.S. News and World Report

Stephen J. Parazin, who was also named as a top doctor by Boston magazine in 2010, was ranked 31 in orthopedics by the recent list.

"It's kind of cool," said Parazin, Chief of Spine Surgery at New England Baptist Hospital. "In this day and age, when we're looking at everyone is hammering on doctors and physicians, it's nice to get that bit of recognition that at some level, I'm doing something right."

Parazin has worked at New England Baptist since 1998, and specializes in complex surgery of both the neck and back. He was also honored in 2008, 2009 and 2010 by his patients with a Patient's Choice recognition award, which reflects a difference he's made in people's lives.

His recognition on the U.S. News and World Report list is something he said is more than gratifying, as it was not something he was aware of before hand.

"We all get jaded these days with what people say and do, and when you get this external thing like this out of the blue, there's a little gratification about it," Parazin said. "It's great to be recognized like that. I don't know what it means, but it's a good feeling."
