Westwood Moms Topic: Buying Local
A look at where and how Westwood families buy their produce.
Each week, members of our Moms Council of experts and smart moms take your questions, give advice and share solutions.
Moms, dads, grandparents and the diverse families who make up our community will have a new resource for questions about local neighborhood schools, the best pediatricians and the thousands of other issues that arise while raising children.
Earlier this week, Westwood Patch blogger Susan Bunker wrote a small post about how she and her children tend to buy local produce in the area during the summer months, whether at farmers markets or other produce suppliers.
As such, this week's discussion focuses on how families in Westwood approach buying locally from nearby farm stands or farmers markets.
Feel free to add your thoughts and ideas in our comments section with this week's question below:
Where do you buy produce that is locally grown? Is buying local something you and your family take seriously?

I'd like to take a moment to briefly mention the Dedham Square Country Store (626 High Street, Dedham, MA 02026).
I started the business back in November of 2009, and officially opened on January 31, 2010. We started off as an "Indoor Winter Farmer's Market" that sold only organic and all-natural food products and beverages. As time went on, we began slowly transitioning to an independent retail store with a Farmer's Market style business model. During the same time frame, we also began to offer collectables and out-of-print books.
Currently, we're still only open one day a week (Sunday) from the hours of 10:00am until 2:00pm. We offer completely organic produce exclusively provided by the LemonThyme Farm Network based out of Hanson, MA, as well as Jams, Jellies, Preserves, a variety of Dairy Products (cheese, eggs, milk, ice cream), Pasta, Grain Products, Breads, Desserts, Coffee, Tea, and More! All of our products are exclusively produced in the United States, with more than 80% of our total offerings originating 25 miles away or less.
It is my strong belief that we're doing things the right way, and providing an alternative to "big box stores" such as Shaw's, Star Market, Stop & Shop, and many other conglomerate grocers who don't provide healthy food, or focus on setting competitive and affordable pricing.
As a Westwood resident, I sincerely hope you'll check us out. If you mention this post, I'll provide you with a free one-week CSA share ($16 value).
