Westwood Memorial Day Plans Underway, Parade Marshal Chosen

The annual parade will take place on Monday, May 28 at 10 a.m.

Westwood’s annual Memorial Day Parade will take place on Monday, May 28, kicking off at 10 a.m. sharp from the front steps of Westwood Town Hall.

The parade will proceed down High Street to the Old Westwood Cemetery for the traditional Memorial Day Ceremony, in which residents and local officials remember those that made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve our freedoms.

Of note this year is the honoring of Westwood resident and veteran, Lt. George Brennan, as the parade marshal.

Brennan is the recipient of several campaign and service medals for his service during World War II. His experience includes having flown the Douglas Dauntless Dive Bomber and the F4U Corsair during combat in the South and Central Pacific, as well as Okinawa, completing 245 combat missions in all.

In anticipation of Memorial Day, all Veterans' grave sites will be decorated. All who are interested in volunteering can meet on Friday, May 25, in the New Westwood Cemetery to refresh all the American Flags on the Veterans' graves.

Both the New Cemetery, as well as the Old Cemetery will be done.

On Saturday, May 26, officials we will meet in the New Westwood Cemetery, again, this time to plant a geranium on each Veterans' grave.

Residents who are interested are welcome to join, and must bring their own planning tools.

Is there a specific time to meet to help decorate the veterans' graves on Friday and to plant geraniums on Saturday? Thanks!
