Westwood Crash Lands State Trooper in Hospital
The crash occurred Thursday night when another vehicle cut in front of the trooper's car.
A Massachusetts state police trooper is in the hospital following a crash late Thursday night on the Canton/Westwood line.
According to State Police Spokesman David Procopio, the accident occurred on 128 south, north of I-95 on the Canton/Westwood line. The trooper's cruiser was hit during "a detail escort of a construction crane (Thursday night,)" Procopio said.
"The cruiser was driving slowly in the right lane in front of a crane that was moving into position for a construction job," he said. "A second cruiser was following the crane, also at a slow speed."
The preliminary investigation "suggests that another vehicle passed the cruiser following the crane, and then passed the crane itself, but did not see the cruiser in front of the crane," he stated. "That car then cut in front of the cruiser – perhaps in an attempt to make an exit – and struck the rear of the cruiser in front of the crane."
The trooper was transported by ambulance to Milton Hospital, the spokesman said. The extent of his injuries was not known, but police are calling them "potentially serious," Procopio said.
The state police investigation "is ongoing to determine what charges the operator of the vehicle that struck the cruiser will face."
State Police had no additional information late Thursday night.
