Why Go: While Westwood reserves its fireworks spectacular for New Year's Eve each year, a number of surrounding towns hold similar celebrations for Independence Day, including neighboring Needham. Be sure to check out the event for food, entertainment, and of course, fireworks!

3. RED, WHITE AND BLUE MUSICAL CONCERT & FAMILY PICNIC
Where/When: Needham High School, 609 Webster St, Needham Heights; July 1: 5:30-9 p.m.
Why Go: Bring your picnic basket and enjoy a patriotic concert at Memorial Park in Needham, as well as a concert featuring the Haverhill Sons of Italy Drum and Bugle Corps.

4. DEDHAM SQUARE COUNTRY MARKET
Where/When: 626 High St, Dedham; Weekly on Sundays: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Why Go: A weekly market will be held at the new "Dedham Square Country Market," featuring a variety of items and a variety of vendors.

Where/When: Westwood Public Library (Main Branch), 668 High St, Westwood; Daily (for the library's summer hours, click here).
Why Go: Summer's as good a time as any to catch up on your reading. As part of the Westwood Public Library's Young Adult Summer Reading program, patrons can read a book of their choosing, write a review, bring it to the reference desk and get a book to keep from a large selection of young adult titles.
