Water District Orders Mandatory Watering Restrictions

The Dedham-Westwood Water District has ordered residents to water lawns only at specified times.

With the heat index over 100 for the second day in a row in Dedham, the Dedham-Westwood Water District is ordering residents to only hydrate their lawns on specified days.

"Mandatory outside watering restrictions were implemented today because of the combination of extended dry hot weather, which increases demand for water and the declining flow in the Neponset River," the district stated in a press release.

Lawn watering is permitted in Dedham on Mondays and Thursdays and in Westwood on Tuesdays and Fridays until further notice, stated the DWWD.

Hours of watering on the those days are limited to 6 - 9 a.m. and 6 - 9 p.m.

While lawn watering is restricted, hand-held hoses may be used at any time to water flowers or vegetables.

Questions should be directed to DWWD's Customer Service Office at 781-329-7090.
