Victories Continue for Westwood Mens Lax Team

Aged Wood won in a battle against the Stale Blue Donuts of Chelsea on Monday night.

With the holiday week here, the third game of the Old New England Lacrosse League (O.N.E.L.L.) season was played on Monday night, July 2. The game ended in a victory for Westwood's Aged Wood Lacrosse Club (AWLC), which took down the Stale Blue Donuts of Chelsea, 7-5.

It was a steamy evening at Chelsea High School. The Stale Blue Donuts took control of the ball early. With Aged Wood's bench so deep, it was apparent immediately in the heat they wanted a slow tempo game.

We got out to an early 3-0 lead as both teams were sloppy with lots of turnovers. The Donuts attack got one back to end the first quarter. Our defense really locked down on them to the point where they had maybe five or six shots. The offense continued to grind away to a 6-1 lead. A deflected shot early in the third gave the Donuts a second goal.

As Jim McGowan, Scott Lanciloti, John Mahoney and Larry Klaff continued to lock the down our opponents. We sustained some injuries to Karl Langmuir (attack) and John Mahoney (defense). The Donuts made a late surge pulling within one at 6-5. An outstanding isolation drive by Todd Zahurak (Westwood High School's varsity boys lacrosse coach) as he went "upstairs" to score and seal the game for us.

It was a hard fought game and you have to commend the Donuts for not giving up. They are a great group of guys who we have enjoyed getting to know.

AWLC travels to Easton on Wednesday, July 11 to play the Misfits at 7 p.m.
