Summer Concert Series to Return Monday
The four-part series is hosted by the Westwood Young Women's Club.
A favorite of Westwood families, the 2011 Summer Concert Series returns Monday night to the Westwood Senior Center for four installments of summertime entertainment.
Kicking off on Monday and taking place each Monday night until August 1, the series this year welcomes returning performers as well as new children's entertainers.
"These concerts are really fun," said Erica Rice, a volunteer with the Westwood Young Women's Club and Senior Vice President/Manager at Coldwell Banker in Westwood. "The kids come and dance, people have picnics on the Senior Center lawn. The last two concerts are really geared for young kids, but they are all a fun way to spend a Monday night in Westwood. When the kids are tired of dancing, they like to go play on the tot lot."
The events, which are sponsored by the Westwood Young Women's Club and sponsored by the Westwood Recreation Department, include pizza for purchase, courtesy of Westwood Pizza.
Below is the official lineup:
Monday, July 11: Westwood Community Swing Band, 6:30-8 p.m.
This 16-piece ensemble plus female vocalist return to the Senior Center for a night of big-band era jazz.
Monday, July 18: Overboard, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Overboard, a nationally-renowned, male a cappella group, returns from last year's series with yet another repertoire of various musical genres.
Monday, July 25: The Bubble Music Man, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
This one-hour program is geared for children ages 3 to 7. The night is expected to bring musical fun, interactivity and bubbles together in one place. The event will feature kid-friendly music, as well.
Monday, August 1: MackSeeDoodle, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
The series ends in early August with an interactive musical performance for children. Families can expect a mix of well-known songs, as well as songs that explore the imagination, diversity, healthy choices, bullying and adventure.
