Monday's annual Memorial Day Parade in Westwood was in full swing, as residents from all over town gathered along High Street/Rte. 109 to participate in the festivities.  

The parade took off from Westwood Town Hall and traveled to Westwood Cemetery, where residents and members of the parade came together to watch performances, listen to speeches, and most importantly, honor those who served in the U.S. military. The parade then traveled back to the town hall as the ceremony in the cemetery concluded. 

Amongst those who made up the parade were Westwood Boy Scouts and Westwood Girl Scouts, members of the Thurston Middle School and Westwood High School bands, war veterans, police officers and firefighters and many more. Vintage cars were also displayed throughout the parade. 

Once the parade reached the cemetery, hundreds drew near to honor those who lost their lives while in service. 

Dan Clark, also known as "The Singing Trooper," dazzled with his armed forces theme medley and the middle school and high school bands each performed. 

Reverend Chis Dodge opened with a prayer, and two young girls led the Pledge of Allegiance. Westwood Board of Selectmen Chair Patrick Ahearn, firefighter Jon Cook, Grand Marshall Beth Ahern and Dick Paster, who is affiliated with American Legion Post 320, were a few of the people who addressed the crowd. 

Westwood currently has over 800 veterans and is continuously making an effort to feature as many as possible in the upcoming parades.
