- He also serves on the House Ways and Means Committee.
- Ryan, 42, is married to Janna Little. They have three children and live in Janesville, Wisconsin.
- Prior to running for Congress, Ryan served as an aide to Republican Senators Robert Kasten Jr. and Sam Brownback, former U.S. Rep. and Vice Presidential Candidate Jack Kemp, and as a speechwriter for Education Secretary William Bennett.

What do you think of Romney's choice of Paul Ryan for vice president? Let us know in the comment's section.

The 4 biggest lies in politics. 1. Read my lips,I won't raise taxes. 2. Iraq has weapons of mass destruction. 3. Tax cuts for the wealthy will create jobs. 4. Ryans plan will not hurt seniors and people on medicare. UTTERED BY WHO?

You must be suffering from Bush derangement syndrome. Lets get alittle more up to date on those political lies. "I was born in Hawaii". "I will close Gitmo". "I will cut the deficit in half by the end of my first term". "If I don't fix the economy in 3 years, this is going to be a one-term proposition". "If you pass my stimulus package, unemployment won't rise over 8%" Oh and "Obamacare is not a tax"
But the most egregious deception comes from Lizzy Lieawatha herself, when she stated "I am not a fake Indian".
5 more months until sanity is restored.

Mike, FYI Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. How do we know, THEY USED them dozens of times in the Iran-Iraq war (Sept 80-Aug 88). Their favorites were mustard gas and VX nerve gas. Over 1 MILLION people died in it, including over 100K civilians. Where they went is still a mystery?
Also, only 63% of the people are working now, only 52% of them pay taxes. That's 33% that pays for EVERYTHING. You should focus on getting the other 67% that is on the dole to get out of the free ride in the wagon and start pushing the wagon to contribute something to our country.

In response to michael's comment, http://roadmap.republicans.budget.house.gov/ this web site will show you that people over the age of 54 will not have any benefit changes. Its the tail end of the baby boomers and future generation who will have to deal with changes. The program he proposes will assist the poor rather than the wealthy figuring the later will have the means to help themselves. Ryan also asks for parties on both side of the isle to throw their ideas into the mix and lets debate it out to come up with the best plan for the future. Being an election year how many takers do you think he has gotten. It is easy to judge when you don't have a suggestion for fixing the problem.

Any BOZO who believes that Ryan's Plan will remain, as is, is a total fool (Just like the 535 that are in Congress). His plan is a beginning, not an end product.
If we can just get those MORONS in D.C.(both parties) to work for US, not Special Interests, then maybe there will be a finished product that will work.
Remember, nothing in this world is free. If you think we can add to healthcare roles w/o either cutting costs or raising premiums you're nuts. Money MUST come from somewhere. Where is that? The participants!!! One way or another we'll pay. Rationing or higher costs. Get your heads out of the sand. What I said is fact, not fantasy. Try to look at issues in a reasonable manner, not what politicians tell you.Research for yourself!!!

You have a rich old guy as the presidential candidate then get a younger white rich guy from wisconsin as your running mate. The GOP is continuing to cast itself as a party of rich white men, zero appeal to minorities and ethinic groups (as much of you out there want to deny it...those groups are becoming major voting blocks).
The party has run moderates out of its electorate and has really done nothing to appeal to indepedents. The GOP is is in big trouble

Ryan's mother would have received Social Security benefits when her husband died at the time Paul Ryan was age 16. This would have supplimented the family income and perhaps act as a boost for his college tuition while he attended a state school built and paid for by taxpayers. He's a living example of the success of Social Security and the state college system as investments in people.
Now he's an enemy of the very system that helped his family. Self reliance??? Some people forget where they came from and how it all happened. As the president said, self made people don't do it alone. Someone else was there to help.

You just hypothesized that whole argument without one known fact...typical democrat! You have no idea if his mother received social security or his college tuition was reduced/free!

His mother actually did receive Social Security benefits when her husband (Ryan's father) died. Also, I didn't say he received "reduced/free" tuition. The Social Security benefits (extra money in the family budget) would have helped to contribute toward his tuition at the state college where he attended. A state college built with taxpayers' money.
Now, does this truth hurt?

Not really. You wrote "would have" in your original statement. If she did receive SS, then she received SS. Doesn't mean he has to support a broken program.

First of all, as with any VP candidate, the level of interest in the #2 person has a shelf life of about 10 days and then it fades into the background. Ryan is a thoughtful, well spoken, consevative Republican whose fiscal policies will firm up the base for Romney but will be ineffective and potentially damaging with Independents and the elderly vote. Overall, his selection looks good on the surface but will not help
Romney bridge the gap that he faces to win the election.

"Would have" is past tense. ( He was age 16)

Sorry but "would have" is conditional perfect tense, implying something that MAY have happened. Therefore, saying you didn't know if she received SS as a fact.

We should all scroll back up to Steve P.'s comments in his second paragraph. If you really want to improve our collective situation take a good look at the numbers. We hear from our leadership that about tax cuts for the wealthy. Well what about the people free loading on the system. We used to have manufacturing jobs that could support people of that caliber. Companies rewarded years of work with pensions. People were proud to work for a company that took care of them. It was not uncommon for a person to spend their entire working life with the same company. Our government makes great promises every four years on how they are the ones to fix all our problems. Given the track record of the present government, anyone who thinks more of the same will get us out of this debacle is delusional. Until we level the playing field "WE" 33% will have to pony up the doe for everyone.

I want a President who has been successful in business! That's who we need to lead this country out of this gaping hole we are in. It is delusional to think that the financially healthy (and not necessarily rich) will continue to build businesses, employ the rest of us, work well beyond what we consider fulltime, or even stay here in this country if things continue as they have been the last 3 years. We want them here! Even if they have minimized their tax liability through legal means, they are still paying large amouts of taxes, not spending their money at Walmart, probably did not recieve financial aid for college (how many of you have recieved that benefit?), and those who make more statistically have more years of education than the rest of us. Equal outcomes is just not possible or feasible. We can all agree reform is needed in many areas, but don't cut off your nose to spite your face.

The presidential election will come down to the economy. If unemployment remains high (over 8% now) then people will look for alternatives than the current administration. I believe Ryan will be good for the debate over entitlements and debt. Our nation must look at these issues seriously to avoid the financial meltdown that several European countries now face. Ryan has come up with his draft and I would expect the Obama administration to publicize their plan. Politicians must realize this is now a zero sum gain. All of us must be willing to sacrifice to put the nation on the right financial footing.
