Seniors from Westwood High School took the next step of their lives by graduating earlier this month, but on Wednesday, fifth graders at Deerfield Elementary soard to the next level in their own right.

Students were honored by teachers and parents at the school for their accomplishments as elementary students at Deerfield.

"We're here to acknowledge the hard work done over the past years by our fifth grade students," Principal Allan Cameron said. "Their journey is not done. But we want to celebrate past successes. We have high hopes and expectations for you. KNow that you are about to embark on a great adventure."

And celebrate they did. Showing off their musicial talents, the group engaged in songs while their parents cheered them on, as did their younger counterparts from grades four and under at the school, all of them sitting in the front row in the school's cafeteria.

John McKinnon, Student Council President, gave the student address, thanking his peers for a wonderful experience at the elementary level.

"It's been an honor being your Student Council president," he said. "Let's not forget the reason we're here."

The group will move on to the sixth grade level at Thurston Middle School this fall.
