PHOTOS: 'Hot Stove' Event Brings an Early Feel of Baseball
The Westwood Little League hosted the event on Sunday at Westwood High School.
While it's not a typical winter in Westwood, a group of young athletes took some time last weekend to look ahead to spring, and, more importantly, baseball season.
On Sunday, the Westwood Little League hosted its first Hot Stove event.
"It was terrific," said WLL President John Loughnane. "It exceeded our expectations. We had a lot of energy around baseball in January, which was terrific."
The event, meant to boost the spirit of baseball during the winter months, featured games, crafts, music, hot dogs, pretzels, popcorn and ice cream, as well as an appearance by Eddie Germano, a long-time sports cartoonist from Boston.
STATIC, a contemporary teen rock band, performed two live sets in the high school auditorium. The band comprises Westwood residents and former little leaguers Jason Oberstein, Trevor Brown, Jeremy Brown, Matt Mackenzie and Owen Grady.
"It was just really well organized," Loughnane said. "I give a ton of credit to Michelle Berlutti and her group that organized it."
