A Cambridge business that was built by Westwood-based Essex Builders Corp. has been awarded a platinum rating under its LEED for Homes program, according to a report from BostonSF.com this week. 

Elm Place, located on Cambridge Street in Cambridge, received the nod from the U.S. Green Building Council. Essex Builders completed the building last year, which comprises 25,000 square feet and four stories, as well as 19 apartments with retail space at the street level, according to BostonSF.com.

The design of the building comprises a high sustainable element including a 24 kilowatt solar power plant on the roof. 

In related news, the new Westwood Public Library, which is set to open later this year, has also been recognized for its energy efficiency. The building is Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified, and recently was notified that NSTAR would be donating about $60,000 to the town for the building's "green" design.
